چکیده

In the field theoretical description of hadronic scattering processes, single transverse-spin asymmetries arise due to gluon initial and final state interactions. These interactions lead to process dependent Wilson lines in the operator definitions of transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions. In particular for hadron–hadron scattering processes with hadronic final states this has important ramifications for possible factorization formulas in terms of (non)universal TMD parton distribution functions. In this paper we will systematically separate the universality-breaking parts of the TMD parton correlators from the universal T -even and T -odd parts. This might play an important role in future factorization studies for these processes. We also show that such factorization theorems will (amongst others) involve the gluonic pole cross sections, which have previously been shown to describe the hard partonic scattering in weighted spin asymmetries. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Model independent analysis of gluonic pole matrix elements and universality of transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation functions

Gluonic pole matrix elements explain the appearance of single spin asymmetries (SSA) in high-energy scattering processes. They involve a combination of operators which are odd under time reversal (T-odd). Such matrix elements appear in principle both for parton distribution functions and parton fragmentation functions. We show that for parton fragmentation functions, these gluonic pole matrix e...

Transverse momentum dependent quark densities from Lattice QCD

We study transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) with non-local operators in lattice QCD, using MILC/LHPC lattices. We discuss the basic concepts of the method, including renormalization of the gauge link. Results obtained with a simplified operator geometry show visible dipole deformations of spin-dependent quark momentum densities.

TMDlib and TMDplotter: library and plotting tools for transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions

Transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs) are extensions of collinear parton distributions and are important in high-energy physics from both theoretical and phenomenological points of view. In this manual we introduce the library [Formula: see text], a tool to collect transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs) and fragmentation functions (TMD FFs) together ...

On the Universality of Collins Functions

Collins functions are quark fragmentation functions responsible for some single spin asymmetries in hadronic processes. The functions are defined with gauge links pointing to different directions in different processes. By replacing hadrons with QCD partons we show the universality of Collins functions at parton level. We give arguments to support that the universality also holds at hadron leve...

Time-reversal-odd phenomena in QCD

Single-spin asymmetries were long thought to vanish in high-energy scattering processes because of their specific time-reversal behavior. Time-reversal-odd phenomena, however, appear naturally when one includes effects of intrinsic transverse momenta of partons. The partons, quarks and gluons, enter the description of high-energy scattering processes in correlators which contain quark and gluon...
